Macbook, Hard Drive, Serato (CDs) Well..... it starts off when living in Brixton, learning a small part of beat matching and mixing back in the good old garage days but only did it for fun as others in the camp where on a more serious tip! A few years after moving to Park Royal and only knowing music being played off vinyl, I stumbled across a program called 'Virtual DJ' I was amazed by it so tried it out but I was finding it way to tough so left it. A long while later I decided to try again and I found my feet... so after a LOT (I do stress that word for anyone reading) of practice, at the back end of 2006 I decided to try showcase what i got to few heads and quickly got some house party sets with various people saying that they enjoyed my djin, so decided to try my hand in breaking into the scene for 2007!! Got to admit I've had a bit of luck along the 2007 ride, oh so randomly (thank you comedy club!!) linked up with now what I consider fully family Voice'N'Vibes who gave me my 1st break into the raving scene at 'No Less Than Finesse' which I was extremely to be a part of and happy that few of my friends came to support my performance! It was a warm up set and I got the crowd nicely ready for the time VNV needed to do what they do best! Pushing on a few events I got another big break at 'Fresh Meets Finesse Pt.1' where I had a storming 30 minute set near the end of the night to a virtually rammed out Bankside to confirm that DJ Sef was the next dj to look out for in the scene. Bookings where coming in at a steady rate from other promotions but I didn't have an identity until A HUGE set at a rammed out birthday party in Mile End had calls for me to concentrate on the House + Funky genre, I was now focusing my mind on House + Funky and improving each and every time, learning critical things like placement of mixes and matching melodies. With my House + Funky sets reaching a high level, Voice suggested I should give some edge to my name, 'Funkin' was born and to this day is the trademark that follows me!! I'm now hitting the university scene with some good feedback and bookings mostly hitting Leicester but have been to other parts of the UK, looking to expand to other places. Gotta give a special thanks to Bigg Cash for recognizing what we can achieve and doing a lot for me up in Leicester. 2008 has been ok so far with the highlight being Unfied @ Rubix check the video below to understand that!! Hopefully it can pick up more during the summer months! I'm far from your average Laptop DJ, I worked hard to learn how to deal with it proper and yeah I agree it's easy to line up/beat match tunes, but its what you can do after you line up/beat match the tune that counts!! Guess that is why I'm still getting bookings now?? LOL! Now I have moved onto Serato Scratch Live and I'm loving it, I'm looking to take this to the next step!! You honestly can't have any party/rave without 'Funkin' Sef being involved, the funky just aint the same but none the less on a serious.. if any promoters are looking for a good house & funky DJ, I'm the man, ask around cos they don't call me 'Funkin' Sef for no reason! Right now I've left the radio scene after a long time at React FM and brief stints at SweetUK.net & Intouch FM as I feel there is way too many of the same type of shows around town on the pirate scene and I am gonna come with something different, plans are in place... so watch this space!! An intense and borderline obsessive obsession with House Music since the late 90's and a supporter in the scene for over half of his life from Northeast Wisconsin.
